Ultimate DIY Website Conference Helps Small Biz Beginners, Advanced Web Developers Alike Learn WordPress…

WordCamp Columbus Returns as Ohio’s Largest WordPress Education Event

Columbus, OH. — There’s a good chance your favorite website, online store or blog is powered by WordPress, the free online website software that has put web publishing power in the hands of anyone with a keyboard and Internet access. Nearly 20% of the internet’s websites are powered by WordPress. August 2-3, more than 200 small business owners, non-profit agencies, realtors, photographers, designers, journalists, developers, and even teens will gather on the Union on the campus of Ohio State to learn easy website publishing and development at the 2013 WordCamp Columbus.

The non-profit event brings together WordPress enthusiasts and developers from around the United States to share best practices and strategies for a wide variety of businesses. Headlining speakers include Syed Bahlki (@wpbeginner), owner of WPBeginner.com, Chip Bennett (@chip_bennett) from the WordPress Theme Review Team, and Pippin Williamson (@pippinsplugins). Local WordPress developers are also presenting sessions. David Ensinger from OSU Libraries, Matthew Russo from 30Lines, and Adam Schweigert from the Largo Project are among the 25 sessions available to attendees. Users of all skill levels and backgrounds are encouraged to attend.

“It’s an amazing mix of folks at all ability levels,” said Angie Meeker, one of the event’s organizers. “I’ve watched small business owners go from zero net knowledge in the 101 class to publishing their own business website by the end of the conference.”

Not just for novices, WordCamp Columbus is a must-attend networking and continuing education event for professional web developers. “For the seasons WordPress developer or someone interested in learning more about core WordPress development, there is no better place to network and ask questions than WordCamp Columbus.” A series of sessions and workshops aim to cultivate a creative community among design, web development and communication professions.

Several of last year’s popular activities will return, including a full-day workshop on Friday, August 2 for Beginners and an after party hosted at the Varsity Club Saturday evening.

Tickets are $40 and are available at columbus.wordcamp.org/2013/tickets/

Ticket holders get access to both days of WordCamp Columbus, plus a $20 BuckId Card which can be used at most restaurants within walking distance of the Union, and a one-time parking garage pass. For updates on speakers and scheduling, visit columbus.wordcamp.org/2013 .
